Obituary for Mr John Benjamin "JB" Akins
Statesboro, GA
Mr. John Benjamin “JB” Akins, age 78, died on Tuesday February 2, 2010 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Bulloch County native was a graduate of Stilson High School and attended the Martha Berry College. Mr. Akins was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean War. He managed the Bethany Home in Millen GA, before owning and operating nursing homes in Georgia and South Carolina over several years. Mr. Akins retired in 1980 and currently owns and leases Syl-View Health Care in Sylvania and Ridgecrest Nursing Home in Ridgeland SC. He was a member of the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his parents Ollie and Eula Akins.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years Faye Rountree Akins of Statesboro; a daughter Vickie Dearing of Gainesville, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law Ricky and Beth Akins and Bill and Nelly Akins all of Brooklet, GA; eight grandchildren Jeremy (Lauren) Akins, Julie Dearing, Amanda (Billy) Latsko, Lindsey Akins, Lauren Akins, Katie Akins, Jesse Akins, and Bryer Akins.
The visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Keith Hamilton officiating.
Interment will be at Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Randy Waters officiating.
Pallbearers are Edwin Akins, Grady Aycock, Billy Latsko, Steve Byrd, Stephen Currin and Jimmy Hayes.
Honorary pallbearers are Earl Dabbs, Steve Rushing and Steve Cannon.
