Mrs. Hazel Smith Mock, 83, of Sylvania, GA, passed away at the Thrive at Augusta assisted living facility in Augusta, GA. Hazel was born in Sylvania, GA to the late Solomon D. and Myrtie Jeffers Smith in 1937, considering herself a true firecracker. She was a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, earning a BSN, and after graduation she worked as a Registered Nurse. The final years of her nursing career she focused on high blood pressure and stroke prevention with the Community Cardiovascular Council in Savannah, GA. She was a very active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, where she taught Sunday School, Mission Friends, GAs, and Acteens. She chaperoned countless youth trips with the church and she was a firm believer in Vacation Bible School. She is preceded in death by her husband, G. David Mock, and her parents, Solomon D. and Myrtie Jeffers Smith, and sister, Jewel Smith Davis. She is survived by her children; Jan M. and Rollin Isbell of Jacksonville, FL, Steven T. and Terry Mock of Sylvania, GA, and Debra M. and Tony Edenfield of Pulaski, GA, grandchildren; Kristen Isbell, Madelyn Ihnen, and Deanna Houston, and her siblings; Glenda S. & Johnny Armstrong of Sylvania; Danny Smith of Sylvania and Bill Smith of Louisville, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on March, 29 2021, at 2:00pm at the Goloid Baptist Church Cemetery with Pam Reddick Collins officiating. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staffs of Pop’s Kitchen, Moats Supermarket, Medicap Pharmacy, BB&T, our family at Thrive at Augusta, and Katrine Moore and the ladies of Loving Care Services. Due to the ongoing Covid concerns, the family respectfully requests no visits to the house, we will visit at the cemetery after the graveside service. The family requests you wear facemasks and observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances to Goloid Baptist Church, c/o Joy Hagan, 1469 South Fork Rd., Sylvania, GA 30467. Feel free to come comfortable and casual to the service and if you like wear something red to honor Mom.
