November 16, 1943 - October 27, 2021
Mrs. Martha Ann Oliver Owen, 77, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 while surrounded by her loving family. All of the words from this point on will barely scratch the surface of the lady Martha Ann Owen was and what she meant to her family. A one of a kind. That’s who my grandma was. She was colorful by the clothes she wore and the things she said. She was witty and had a laugh that would make even the hardest of hearts crack a smile. She was a peculiar person and anyone who knew her knows just what I mean. Our family, collectively, could write a book of the funny things she said or did and could probably make a pretty penny on it. Her heart was for her family and for her church. When she had a vision for something she made sure that she saw it through. She was a passionate woman. Whether she was happy or sad or any mood in between, she was always passionate. She found joy in the small, simple things. She knew how to be content with little and be happy with what she had. She knew how to be still and sit alone with her thoughts. A lesson we could all learn. She loved to play the piano. She enjoyed journaling. She liked plants and flowers. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She liked making blankets for her grands, great grands and nieces and nephews. She liked to hunt. She loved to paint. She was a gift giver. She never made much money but her heart enjoyed blessing her family. She loved her Bible and for as long as I can remember has quoted verses. She loved singing hymns. She was also a foodie. She loved a good meal and her entire way through the meal she would talk about the fat content or calories that the meal contained- it never stopped her from eating it and then getting seconds. It is a privilege to have loved her and been loved by her. It is an honor to have known such a woman. And it is a blessing to have taken care of her in her final days just as she used to care for me and the ones who’ve gone before me. We are all better because of her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Otis Jackson and Ernestine Heath Oliver, and a brother, Charlie Oliver. She is survived by her children; Sherry Lambert, Gary (Kay) Crews, both of Sylvania, GA, Wendy (Eric) Ward of Woodstock, sisters; Christine Newton of Hiltonia, and Beatrice Oliver of Woodstock, sister-in-law, Nancy Oliver of Sylvania, her grandchildren; Erin (Cameron) Martin, Kaley (Darrell) Potter, Karleigh Crews, Emily Crews, Austin Ward, Savannah Ward, and Shaylee (Matthew) Crooms, and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ruth Martin and Jude Avret Potter. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Joiner Anderson Screven Chapel from 10:00am to 11:00am. Services will be held at 11:00am at the Joiner Anderson Screven Chapel with Rev.
